Why do we need more Birth Centers?

  • Shannon wants to give birth at a birth center,
    but her local birth center is so busy, they cannot take new clients right now.
  • Mikayla wants to go to a birth center,
    but the closest birth center is 150 miles away.
  • Anna would love to go to a birth center,
    but there are none in her state.
  • Rachael wants to go a birth center and have a midwife,
    but her health insurance won’t cover it.
  • Carla wants to go to a birth center,
    but her family thinks birth centers are dangerous and that she has lost her mind.
  • Jennifer has heard of birth centers and is curious,
    but most of her friends had cesarean sections and none of her friends had a natural birth.

The AABC birth center model is safe and strongly supported by clinical evidence.

Yet across the United States, less than 1% of childbearing families
get to receive the extraordinary care of a birth center.

In order to ensure that every expecting mother has access to a birth center’s holistic, family-centered, evidence-based care, we need hundreds of new birth centers across the country.
