Fiscal Sponsorship

The AABC Foundation provides fiscal sponsorship for projects that fulfill the mission of the Foundation.  Fiscal sponsorship is a formal arrangement in which a 501(c)(3) public charity sponsors a project that may yet lack exempt status. This allows future non-profit birth centers and foundations designed to support their local birth center to fundraise in their community as they work towards achieving 501(c)(3) status.

When I learned about the opportunity for fiscal sponsorship with AABCF, I knew it was exactly the kind of support we needed. Through our fiscal sponsorship agreement with the AABC Foundation we were able to start receiving tax-deductible donations while our own IRS 501c3 status was still pending. AABCF even set us up with our own personalized fundraising platform page and link that collected information from all of our donors. The fiscal sponsorship also enabled us to start applying for grants when otherwise we would not have been eligible yet. Fiscal sponsorship allowed us to start a strong fundraising campaign seven months earlier than if we had waited for our 501c3 status.

Lynn and her family in the birth center bed she delivered her children in.

When our former birth center closed in November of 2019, our community was devastated. For the first time in over 40 years, Lane County, OR no longer had the choice of birthing in a free-standing birth center. Then came the global pandemic which has further highlighted the need for access to safe, affordable, equitable community birth options. I’m so grateful for the support that the AABCF has given to Our Community Birth Center and I’m thankful that we’re well on our way to restore birth center services in Lane County. I’ve personally experienced the immense benefits of a birth center in my community, and I believe that every family deserves this option.
